Hospital trip

I brought Ethan to the doctor on Wed morning, because his nose was really congested and he could not breathe well. He also was not feeding as much as usual. The doctor took his temp and it was 100.4 F. This is the cutoff, so anytime in the first 3 months of life, babies are suppsed to go to the Emergency Room.

So I packed him in the SUV and drove to the ER down the street. The poor little guy had to go through so much. They had to take a urine sample through a catheter, take a chest x-ray to rule out pneumonia, do a spinal tap to rule out meningitis, take a blood sample and put in an IV for antibiotics. Which by the way took them 7 attempts before they could get the IV in!!! Not only was he in pain and not happy, I was getting really frustrated with them as well.

The protocol at Mayo is to keep any infant under the age of 1 month with a fever in the hospital for 48 hours for observation. Once we got to the room, he fever was down and it stayed down till we left today (Friday). So that is great news, and all his tests came back negative for a bacterial infection.

So the doctors think that he must have just developed a little cold with a fever. Ever since the day we checked in, he is looking better, feeding better and has not had a temperature since.

It was really hard to se him go through all the tests and getting poked so many times, but I am relieved that we know for sure that nothing is wrong with him.

So we will go to our doctor next week for a follow up.

Ethan James Dormody

Well Ethan decided to come a few weeks early! My water broke when I got out of the shower Wed night at 9:30pm. We went into the hospital where they gave me pitosin since my contractions really had not started yet.



After an hour I got an epidural (pitosin is NOT fun!!!), from there we were on the fast track. The epidural was great because I did not feel a thing.

I dialated from 3cm to 10cm in only one hour. Then I pushed for 1 hour then the the baby's heart rate dropped. So the doctors decided to help him out little bit with the forceps. They did a really good job because he came out with no bruises.



Ethan measured 7 pounds 9.5 oz

20 1/4 inches long

We got home at 3:00 on Saturday. Got everything situated and organized. It feels good to finally be home as a family. The dog and cats are adjusting really well. Ethan is currently napping as I write. I cannot believe what a good baby he is! We have to wake him up in order to feed him, he sleeps all the time and rarely fusses.

We have taken many pictures, which I will post soon.......when I have a little more time and not as tired.
We already go in for a couple of baby appointments, one on Mon and one on Tues.

Nathan and I went into the hospital last night because I was having contractions every 5-6 minutes, so they told us to come in and get checked out.

Everything looked great the baby is still head down and moving around alot. I was dilated to 1 cm, and that did not change for the 2 hours we were there so they sent us home. They said it's called latent labor, just my body preparing itself for what's to come.

At our doctor appointment, my budda belly is measuring 36cm, my total weight gain is 28 pounds, and the heart rate is anywhere from 140-150.

We are seeing the doctor every week now. Our doctor is the night OB doctor starting next week for the next 2 1/2 weeks, so that is great news because chances are that she will deliver the baby as well. And that usually does not happen for many parents-to-be, they usually get who ever is on call that night.

35 Weeks

Nathan and I went for a check up today and everything looks great. I have gained a total of 25 pounds. I was also told that I can start taking Pepcid for the bad heart burn that I have been having.
The baby is facing head down which is good, hopefully he stays that way. There is also plenty of amniotic fluid around the baby.

Nathan and I are also going to prenatal classes this weekend. Friday 6:30-9:00 and Sat 9:00am-4:00pm! Yikes!
